Camping in the French Alps: Chamonix, Vanoise and Écrins
Three Alpine bases offer different days: the town and cable car in Chamonix, Peisey-Nancroix on the Vanoise edge, and high-mountain Ailefroide.

In this article
Each valley in the French Alps offers a different kind of stay. In Chamonix, you can pair a visit to the town centre with a ride on a mountain cable car. Peisey-Nancroix is a base for the Vanoise, while Ailefroide sits high in the Écrins. Choose a campsite for the kind of days you want, from city walks and lift rides to park trails and climbing.
Chamonix: the town and Aiguille du Midi within reach
Camping Les Arolles stands on Chemin du Cry, close to central Chamonix. The official tourism listing describes a small, terraced two-star campsite and identifies the Aiguille du Midi cable car as nearby. It lists Chamonix Aiguille du Midi rail stop and Chamonix-Sud bus stop among the access points. Its location makes it easy to combine time in town with a cable-car outing. The operator also says hiking and mountain-bike routes start at the campsite.
