Castel dell'Ovo is the oldest castle in the city of Naples, sitting on the small tuff islet of Megaride between the San Ferdinando and Chiaia districts, facing Via Partenope. The site began as a Roman villa built by Lucius Licinius Lucullo in the 1st century BC and kept the name Castrum Lucullanum into late antiquity.
