Castello di Miramare is a striking white-ivory historic castle built between 1856 and 1860 on a rocky Karst promontory at Grignano, just a few kilometres from Trieste. Designed by Austrian engineer Carl Junker in an eclectic style with medieval, Gothic and Renaissance influences, it was originally the residence of Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Princess Charlotte of Belgium.
