The Wartburg is a historic castle above the city of Eisenach, set on a rocky ridge in the Thuringian Forest. Founded in the 11th century and first mentioned in 1080, it served as the principal residence of the Landgraves of Thuringia and is closely linked to figures such as Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia and Martin Luther, who translated the New Testament here in 1521–1522.
