The Neues Palais is a striking palace at the western end of the main avenue in Sanssouci Park, Potsdam, easily recognised by its distinctive drum dome. Built as a royal summer residence by Frederick the Great between 1763 and 1769 in the Rococo style, it stands in deliberate contrast to the more intimate Sanssouci Castle and showcases the full splendour of Prussian court life with magnificent banquet halls, the Grottensaal, the Marmorsaal and a Schlosstheater.
