The Tower of London is a historic citadel and castle on the north bank of the River Thames in central London, officially known as His Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London. Founded toward the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest, it has served over the centuries as a royal residence, fortress, treasury, armoury, prison, menagerie and home of the Crown Jewels.
