Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a celebrated 17th-century classical château located in Maincy, Seine-et-Marne, about 50 km southeast of Paris near Melun. Built between 1656 and 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances under Louis XIV, it was designed by architect Louis Le Vau and is renowned for its harmonious classical architecture and its famous French formal gardens laid out by André Le Nôtre.
