The Château de Fontainebleau is a royal palace in the town of Fontainebleau, in the Seine-et-Marne department about 60 km southeast of Paris. Its origins go back to a medieval hunting lodge first mentioned in 1137 under Louis VII, but the present complex is mainly Renaissance and Classical, shaped by successive French monarchs from François I through Napoleon III, including Henri II, Henri IV, Louis XIII, Louis XIV, Louis XV, Louis XVI, Napoleon I and Napoleon III.
