Puerta de Alcalá is a monumental neoclassical gate in Madrid, built 1769-1778 by order of King Charles III and designed by Italian architect Francesco Sabatini. It stands at the centre of Plaza de la Independencia, a busy roundabout where Calle de Alcalá, Serrano, and Alfonso XII meet.
